In my case I have a composite bed which makes things really difficult with grounding. Tried the ground braid to the chassis but that did not work. My buddy has a full size truck non-composite and he experienced the same problems with RF. They do work, but for mobile use it's too much of a hassle.

Perhaps for home use it would be better. Good luck. I have 2 of these connected to Shakespeare marine antennas and it works flawless. I keep the tuner inside as well. This tuner is made for a random length wire antenna, and it works.

However, my wire wasn't working so well because it wasn't high enough. I hooked up one side of the ladder line to the post for the single wire that it was made for. The other side of the ladder line goes nowhere, but I think I will attach it to my ground strap. I saw this in one of the reviews here on eHam. This thing works 80 meters on up--all frequencies of of ham all bands. If you have the space, budget and desire to erect a full size antenna system we suggest you do so… bigger is better… however …if you live in an antenna restricted area and must manage with antenna or space restrictions or you simply wish to operate incognito you will be forced to make significant antenna compromises.

The CHAB will make the most of these circumstances! The transformer on the original CHA had smooth sides. The current version has a heat sink to dissipate heat created inside the transformer. Yes, some of the RF that enters the power feeding section is turned into heat rather than transmitted as RF, but that is one of the compromises needed to create a broad-band, low SWR, multi-band HF antenna with minimal visual mpact.

The crowded space above the set required a compact multi-band dipole, and the CHV-5X was selected to solve the problem the minimal space presented. Each band tunes independently of the others. Comet engineers have specifically designed this antenna for those that desire a milti-band dipole that can be rotated if needed, but do not have a lot of room to install it. If you have antenna restrictions, neighbors that tend to complain about antennas, simply want to operate without drawing attention…or you want a lightweight multi-band antenna to use in portable or emergency situations, the CHV-5X is a great choice.

Typical 1. Adjust the SWR to the desired band segment, then use an antenna tuner to TX outside of the or less band-width. The ground radial system is unique…the radials are screwed into 2 collars. The collars can be rotated and fixed so all the radials are located to one side of the antenna….

Anticipating it may need to be installed hidden from view along the side of a building or home, rather than in the preferable location in free space, the ground radial system uses two rotating rings. The radials are screwed into the rings, and the rings can then be rotated so they all are on one side of the antenna rather than the preferred degree spacing. The SWR maybe negatively influenced by the spacing, but if you are in need of a multi-band HF antenna, that includes 6M 2M and MHz, and have little space or cooperation, you will need to make some compromises.

The HVU-8 was designed for those suffereing from antenna restrictions in mind.Forums New posts Search forums. Media New media Search media. Classifieds New listings.

I have an all band vertical antenna in a range of khz to mhz and it works great with scanners and my "AOR Mark 2". Even a local AM station is weak. Help me to get this great receiver on my new external antenna. Thank you. Comparing HF performance of an antenna using a wideband receiver and cheap dongle SDR is always an iffy proposition, but Let's take the obvious stuff first - RF Gain all the way to the right, correct antenna port selected there are 2 - one is a ohm terminal, the other, as you noted, is a PL connection.

Precisely what vertical are you using? I see the squelch and RF Gain seem to share the same control. Make sure the control for RF Gain is active, not the squelch. Using Squelch on HF is not really a good idea If this is a random wire or inverted L that is not using coax, put the lead in on the ohm terminal Premium Subscriber.

Don't know if one can consider the AOR to be I'd like an all band antenna kHz to 2GHz - but I s'pose any bit of wire fits that requirement - it just depends on how well Very true. No antenna that is that broadbanded is ever going to have the same frequency response across its entire range. Not happening. That's why I wanted to know precisely what antenna the OP is using. Ubbe Member. Authority On Radio Communications. The SA is a passive arrangement providing two whip elements: a long element for short wave up to 30 MHz and a second Can anybody confirm or Likely you are right, Ubbe I wonder If I must try just the outside line of the cable or just the center wire on the ohm connector?

If it is a possibility I will cut a PL connector off and replace the wire. If the suggestions I gave didn't help, then your next step is to try to feed the antenna differently. How is this antenna being fed?

What is this ohm connector? You might try to connect to the ohm terminal directly instead just as an experiment - just short the 2 ends of the ohm cable together with a clip lead and feed it that way.QRZ Forums. The Icom IC! I preordered a ten minutes after HRO put the preorder page up. Extremely excited. If you can't find 1, uses for a throughcm 10watt SDR that fits in a day pack, has a microUSB on the side for control and audio, and takes HT batteries, you're not thinking hard enough. Even a few watts is p l e n t y to work local repeaters if your station is solid; mine will be either scanning machines or parked on If you don't care about HF voice, and like the deedles and beeps, 10 watts will be a perfectly fine primary rig with even a mediocre antenna.

Saves on PSU spend, too. I will say that I frowned a bit with the lack of tuner, but I guarantee you LDG will come out with a cute little snap-on tuner. I'd also be happy with just throwing a tapped L and a small air variable C in a Bud box and having a lil' L network tuner for the field.

I also have one of those MFJ "big stick" 17ft base loaded verticals that I've kitted out with a nice radial set and a telescope tripod. It dips SWR just fiiiiiine. QRP is alive folks. This technology is seen in Software Defined Radios and other radio equipment. Class leading phase noise characteristics Overcoming cost and performance limitations of the superheterodyne system, the RF direct sampling system pursues ideal high performance phase noise.

As the result, compared to the IC, the IC's phase noise characteristics are improved about 15dB at 1kHz frequency offset. This superior phase noise reduces noise components in both receive and transmit signals. This user-friendly interface provides intuitive operation. Status Not open for further replies. Joined May 20, Messages I've not tried SW reception before, but I'm thinking something may be wrong with this receiver. I can get local frequencies only. I had been considering the Grundig "World" radios but assumed this Icom would be a better radio, now I'm not so sure I wasn't mistaken.

For now, I'm assuming the stock antenna is the culprit, even though I get absolutely nothing on the SW frequencies. I've been studying HF antenna's and the idea of a 8'8" wire trailing me around with my portable is not to appealing. Isn't there a HF antenna less than 3 feet long that could do a better job than the stock telescoping whip? If you really want to listen to HF you need the right antenna. Where is the correct forum? Shortwave Antennas - The RadioReference. Real SWL antennas usually fixed, are either lengths of wire with matchers, random wires, wires at actual wavelength resonance, or loops and verticals with amps and matchers to put the antenna into the HF bands.

A stock whip and the like will just get the big guys pretty much and that's all. Your Icom wants something more that's in the HF ballpark. Joined Dec 16, Messages 7, Location Sitting in an airport somewhere.
