Today we partnered with the Boys and Girls Club in Bertrams, Johannesburg, introducing local children to design thinking in a pop-up maker space. A total of 30 local children worked with six of our facilitators over a two-hour session to invent powerful new ideas how to make their neighbourhood better and safer for kids. Play Africa is facilitating these workshops with children as pat of the Maker's Way Collective a creative placemaking initiative for urban Johannesburg, backed by several partners, including the City of Joburg, the Johannesburg Development Agency U.

We visited Constitutional Hill when doing the Hop on Hop off bus. A must see We were in awe of the rich history. This was an extremely enlightening experience. We toured the jail where Mandela and Ghandi were imprisoned. Excellent tour. Very powerful - some parts were hard to see and read sad and so unjust how the prisoners were treatedhowever very worth seeing and important to learn about. It was also really interesting touring the high court next door - we happened to be there on a day when they were issuing a judgment so we saw media coverage and lots of activity, which was very cool to be there for.

For those who wish to gain a deeper understanding of the new South Africa, a visit to the Constitutional Court is a must. We toured this with our guide, Robin Binckes, from Wil-ro. He was invaluable in helping us understand the symbolism within the decor, for instance, the always open door, the height of someone standing at the podium relative to the sitting judges and much of the artwork.
I think there are guided tours offered on site sometimes, but not when we were there. Unless you are well informed about this site, without a guide you would miss much of the symbolism.
